"PERLES DE TAHITI GIE"

The international promotion of Tahiti Cultured Pearls is handled by the Perles de Tahiti GIE, which was created in 1993 by the French Polynesia Territorial Government and three local pearl producers associations.

The Perles de Tahiti GIE is a special non-profit economic interest group, whose aim is to promote Tahiti Cultured Pearls and their by-products in overseas markets.

The Territorial government has four representatives, who include three government ministers and one member of the Territorial Assembly, the body that adopts the government yearly budget. The overall aims are:

1. To educate the consumers and the trade about Tahiti Cultured Pearls
2. To promote Tahiti Cultured Pearl as a luxury premium brand - 'Perles de Tahiti'
3. To maintain export quality and quantity
4. To maintain price stability

The three other entities represent 90% of the Tahiti Cultured Pearl production in French Polynesia.
